Keep an eye out for the Wood Buffalo National Park float in the annual Fort Smith Canada Day parade, and then come visit the Wood Buffalo National Park Interpretive Staff in Conibear Park. We’ll be the ones in the fire tower cupola! The Visitor’s Centre at 149 McDougal will be closed for the day. All Park information (and souvenirs, too!) will be available right in the middle of the festivities. Happy Birthday, Canada!

Pine Lake Picnic- Sunday, July 13

Come out to Pine Lake and enjoy a Fort Smith tradition. Let parks staff and volunteers treat you to a delicious summery feast including hotdogs, corn on the cob and watermelon. Swim in the crystal blue waters and take part in games for the whole family. Compete for some of the awesome prizes donated by local businesses, and then relax in the sand. Don’t miss out on this summer favourite!

Paddlefest, August 1-4

The Slave River Paddlefest is a weekend of friendly, big-water fun. Wood Buffalo National Park staff will be leading hiking tours and hosting family programming at the Slave River Rapids- one of Canada’s 167 National Historic Sites! Wood Buffalo Dark Sky Festival, August 22-24

Come join us for spectacular night sky viewing in the world’s largest Dark Sky Preserve, Wood Buffalo National Park! The third annual Dark Sky Festival will include activities and events for all age groups, from the, “Circus of Science” for kids (and the young-at-heart), to feature presentations and night sky observations with the Thebacha and Wood Buffalo Astronomical Society. Spend the weekend camping out at Pine Lake or enjoy activities in town on Friday, August 22.
