Art In The Park

The Arts Scene in the Gros Morne Area

During the 1970s Bonne Bay was an active centre of arts and crafts in Newfoundland. In recent years there has been a revival of the arts scene in the region. Artists and craftspeople are beginning to move back to this beautiful area to live and work. The Gros Morne Theatre Festival is based in Cow Head. Presented by Theatre Newfoundland and Labrador, this summer festival has a varied line-up of performances from June to early September six nights a week. The festival features Newfoundland stories and traditions and local artists bring it to life. Live theatre productions can also be seen in Corner Brook and Stephenville.

The Woody Point Heritage Theatre, the Ocean View Motel (Rocky Harbour) and the Shallow Bay Motel (Cow Head) have local musical entertainment on a regular basis, while other facilities have live music on an occasional basis. Movie theatres are located only in the larger communities such as Corner Brook and Stephenville. Craft stores carrying Newfoundland made items are located in most of the communities in Gros Morne National Park.
