Public Programs

During their residency, artists present public programs at the Discovery Centre in Woody Point or at the Visitor Centre near Rocky Harbour. These are generally one-hour programs as part of the interpretation program series (check the bulletin boards for dates and times). Artists will speak about their work and show slides, and sometimes bring along sketchbooks or other examples of work in progress. These programs are a good chance for people to meet the artists personally, to ask questions, and to learn about the processes and materials involved in art making. Workshops are another opportunity to meet the artists and even learn a new technique.

Artists may do programs in the local schools. For example, Cecil Day worked with the primary and elementary students at Bonne Bay Academy in Woody Point. She encouraged the students to make drawings, and then she assembled their images into intaglio prints of the landscape of Gros Morne National Park. The two prints were subsequently produced as posters and are available in the Gros Morne Co-operating Association gift shops.
