New The Beaver of The RMNP Region
Students will monitor and learn the diversity these “ecosystem engineers” provide to the surrounding landscape and some of the issues facing management of wild and not so wild spaces.
Grades 7-8 Program length: 2 hours.

Escarpment Odyssey
Students will be guided on a rugged and spectacular 6km hike down the Gorge Creek Trail - an experience not easily forgotten! Awareness and knowledge will be developed concerning the geology, history, flora and fauna of the Manitoba Escarpment in Riding Mountain National Park.
Grades 5-8 Program length: 3 hours.
(4 1/2 hours with travel time from Wasagaming)

GPS– Enhanced Escarpment Odyssey
A half-hour GPS orientation session with Friends of Riding Mountain National Park is required for this program at a cost of $3.00/participant, payable to Friends of RMNP. Teachers and students familiar with GIS can collect data on the trail, which can later be used in the classroom to “geo-tag” memorable trail features. Please inquire for more details.
Grades 5-8 Program length: 2 hours.

The Elk of RMNP Region
Riding Mountain National Park Interpreters guide groups into natural areas where students are actively engaged in research and monitoring using radio telemetry and GPS.
Grades 7-8 Program length: 2 hours.

Boreal Explorer
Spruce trees, wolves, moose and fi re are all part of the “northern” or Boreal forest. Students will explore the extreme interactions within this forest community. The program will develop knowledge, skills and student commitment to responsible behaviours and actions concerning boreal forests.
Grades 4-6 Program length: 2 hours.

Grassland Safari Including “New” invasive species component
Students use monitoring techniques to study the soil, plants, insects and animals on the prairie. They will explore the diversity of the remnant grasslands of Riding Mountain National Park and understand the endangered status of grasslands nationally and globally.
Grades 4-6 Program length: 2 hours.

Camping in Wasagaming campground with Interpretive program - $8.80 per student includes:
Daily entrance to the park / Camping fees / Interpretive program of choice.

Camping in oTENTik with Interpretive program - $15.57 per student includes:
Daily entrance to the park / one night stay in an oTENTik / Interpretive program of choice (assuming 6 people per tent).

Interpretive program - $3.90 per student – includes Daily entrance to the park / Interpretive program of choice

Self guided Park Visit - $2.90 per student

 

Explore the Park on Your Own

  • Choose one of seven self-guided hiking trails in RMNP.
  • Explore the Visitor Centre; take in a 30-minute orientation, do a scavenger hunt with your class or watch a video presentation.
  • Rent a Marsh Kit from the Nature Shop and schedule an unguided Ominnik Marsh walk.
