Discovering the Forest
Using their five senses throughout this program, students discover some of the plants and animals that make the forest their home. The sights, sounds and smells of Riding Mountain National Park come alive with the help of teachers, group leaders, guided by a park Interpreter.
{Note: this program requires an adult for every 5 students}
Grades K-3 Program length: 2 hours.
Marsh Marvels
Follow the floating boardwalk through Ominnik marsh; students will have the chance to see what lives in this water wonderland. Wetland dip netting and critter identification are just some of the possible activities. Program emphasis is on the value of wetlands for wildlife and people.
Grades K- 3 Program length: 2 hours.

Boreal Explorer Spruce trees, wolves, moose and fire are all part of the “northern” or Boreal forest. Students will explore the extreme interactions within this forest community. The program will develop knowledge, skills and student commitment to responsible behaviours and actions concerning boreal forests.
Grade 3-6 Program length: 2 hours. Grassland Safari - Including “New” invasive species component
Students use simple monitoring techniques to study the soil, plants, insects and animals of the Manitoba prairie. They will explore the diversity of remnant fescue grasslands in Riding Mountain National Park and recognize the endangered status of grasslands in Canada and around the world.
Grades 4-6 Program length: 2 hours.
Fees
Camping in Wasagaming campground with Interpretive program - $8.80 per student includes:
Daily entrance to the park / Camping fees / Interpretive program of choice.
Camping in oTENTik with Interpretive program - $15.57 per student includes:
Daily entrance to the park / one night stay in an oTENTik / Interpretive program of choice (assuming 6 people per tent).
Interpretive program - $3.90 per student – includes Daily entrance to the park / Interpretive program of choice
Self guided Park Visit - $2.90 per student
Explore the Park on Your Own
- Choose one of seven self-guided hiking trails in RMNP.
- Schedule a group visit to the Visitor Centre for a 30-minute orientation. Do a scavenger hunt with your class or watch a video presentation.
- Rent a Marsh Kit from the Nature Shop and schedule an unguided Ominnik Marsh walk.
