Step 1: Reserve and pay fee

Make your reservation by calling toll free 1-877-559-8818, Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, starting the first business day in April.

Be prepared with your planned entry and departure dates. Keep in mind that July and August are the busiest periods and the number of visitors allowed to enter Gwaii Haanas each day is limited.

You will also be asked for your boat name, vessel registration number, and country of registration.

If you do not have a call sign, we will use your last name to identify your group.

Step Two: Orientation

All Gwaii Haanas visitors must attend an orientation session.  Please allow 1 to 1.5 hours for the session. It is a legal requirement and provides safety information and traveller protocols. This session is also an excellent introduction to the natural and cultural history of the area.

In anticipation of changes resulting from the integration of Gwaii Haanas land and marine areas management, the orientation is now an annual requirement.

2014 Orientation Schedule
June 1 - August 29  Monday to Friday, 9 am
July 1 - August 16 Saturdays as well, 9 am
August 30 - May 31 Monday to Friday by appointment, 48 hours notice

All scheduled orientations take place in Classroom One at the Haida Heritage Centre.
It is not necessary to reserve space in orientations.

Special bookings

To book an orientation for a large group or special circumstance (e.g. at a time not regularly scheduled), call 1-877-559-8818. Sessions delivered outside of normal working hours cost $78.50 and payment is made at time of booking.

Orientations in French

To book an orientation in French, call 1-877-559-8818 at least 48 hours in advance.

Step 3: Register

This process provides our staff with information required in an emergency situation, as well as visitor use statistics. You will be asked to provide your boat type and name, colour of camping gear and emergency contact.

If you have attended an orientation session in 2014, registration may be completed by phone (1-877-558-8818), by email, or in person at the Gwaii Haanas office in Skidegate.

Ensure you keep your trip permit visible while you are onshore.
