Waterton Lakes National Park of Canada
Horseback riding is a traditional activity in Waterton. Most trails are open to horses although there are some restrictions. You can request a complete copy of the park horse use guidelines from email@example.com
, or pick one up at the park gate or Visitor Reception Centre.
Alpine Stables provides guided horseback trips ranging from one hour to full day trips, and also provides boarding facilities for horses.
Backcountry camping with horses is permitted only at Lone Lake and Snowshoe Cabin, where corrals are provided. Prior permission from the Warden Service is required for the use of the Snowshoe corral as it may be in use by park staff. An adequate supply of pelletized horse feed must be packed in and out, as horse grazing in the park is not permitted. Horses must be kept in corrals overnight and are not permitted within the campground. As with other backcountry users, horse users intending to overnight in the backcountry require a Wilderness Use Permit. Please refer to wilderness camping .
