Interpretation
Park interpreters are out and about in the park on weekends from mid-May to mid-September and daily from July 1 to early September. They are there to share knowledge and insights and to help you make the best of your visit.
You may find interpreters at busy areas such as Maligne Canyon and Athabasca Falls or delivering programs at campgrounds and during special events in town. You can join them at the Whistlers Campground Outdoor Theatre every evening during July and August. And remember, you don't have to be camping to come out and enjoy one of the nightly shows, or bring your children to an early evening activity with Junior Naturalists or other short programs at the Xplorers tent.
New for Kids: For a family friendly, hands on way to explore the park, pick up a free Xplorer booklet at Information Centres, Campground kiosks and participating hotels. Activities are for children between 6 and 11. When they complete six activities, kids can receive a personalized certificate and fun souvenir of Jasper National Park!

2012 Summer Interpretive Program
Xplorers Booklet

Parks Canada’s Xplorers program offers children with their families fun-filled activities to learn about their national park and national historic sites. Through a collector’s booklet, children will receive an achievement certificate and souvenir. Free.
Roving Interpreters
May 19 –October 8
Armed with animal hides, horns, antlers, rocks and other props, interpreters are ready to answer your questions and help you make the most of your visit. You might meet these park staff at Maligne Canyon, Athabasca Falls and other major day use areas
Outdoor Theatre - Whistlers Campground
May 18 – October 6
All park visitors are welcome to attend these evening programs that offer a mix of family nights, research insights and special guest performances.
Programs are offered weekends only until June 29, then run nightly until Sept 2, when they switch back to weekends only until Oct 6.

Drop by and see the staff about your Parks Canada Xplorer booklet that offers suggestions for the whole family to get involved with activities.
5:00 – 6:00 pm Junior Naturalist – this popular one hour kids program offered by the Friends of Jasper National Park gives participant an in depth and fun opportunity to learn about the nature of this park. Pre-register recommended by signing up at the Whistlers Campground Theatre.
7:00 – 8:00 pm Drop by and join a Park Interpreter for a variety of hands-on activities and new programs offer 6 – 11 year olds and their parents’ opportunities to learn together. Program will include introduction to geo-caching, wildlife identification and tracking; and traditional campfire skills – like making a fire without matches!
Campfire Programs Wabasso and Wilcox campgrounds
June 29 – Sept 1
Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm bring your cup and relax by the warm glow of a campfire enjoying complimentary tea or hot chocolate. Park Interpreters will entertain the whole family with true tales of adventures, and share stories about the features in this spectacular park.

Wildlife Guardian
Wildlife viewing is one of the most popular activities in Jasper National Park - and there are plenty of animals along the roadsides - from sheep, elk and deer to black and grizzly bear. If people get too close, it can stress the animals, putting their lives at risk and also be dangerous for people. Park Interpreters, called Wildlife Guardian, travel the roads and are on call to stop at areas with "wildlife traffic jams" where they provide information about the animals and help ensure people and animals share the space safely.
