Facilities and Services

Purchasing Passes

There are three entrance gates into the Park: one in the south, one in the north and one in the west end of the Park. Day passes can be purchased from the Automated Pass Machine (APM) by exact coin, Visa, American Express, or MasterCard. Basic information on the Park can also be obtained from the gates. Annual passes can be purchased at the South Gate and North Gate during hours of operation or from the Warden Building during office hours (780-992-2950). See the park map for locations.
Note: Family/Group, Senior Individual and National Annual passes can also be purchased at the Strathcona Tax Department Office in Sherwood Park during office hours.

Visitor Information Center

The Visitor Information Centre is located at the south end of the Park (map) near the south gate and is open Thursday to Monday from mid-May to mid-September during the summer. You can speak with Parks Canada Staff and see displays on the Park's history and natural heritage .

Food and Souvenirs

Simple meals can be obtained from the clubhouse of the golf course.

Camping

Sandy Beach Campground is a 79-site, un-serviced campground located in the Astotin Lake Area.

  • Self-registration is done on a first come, first served basis in non-reserved sites only and when no Campground Attendant is present at the Campground kiosk.

Oster Lake Backcountry Tenting Area is located on the shore of Oster Lake along Shirley Lake Trail and must be reserved in advance by calling (780) 922-5833 from the May long weekend to the September long weekend

Golf Course

A nine-hole golf course is located in the Astotin Lake Area (map) . Equipment can be rented from the pro shop and light meals can be obtained by all Park visitors from their fully licensed club house. Golfing fees do not include the Park entrance fee. All visitors must display a valid park permit to enjoy the national park. For more information on fees or to reserve a tee off time, call the club house during hours of operation at (780) 998-3161.

Parking

Each trailhead is equipped with a parking lot, with the exception of Lakeview Trail for which the Boat Launch parking lot is closest. Parking is also available at the Information Centre and in the Astotin Lake Area. See the map of the Park for locations.

Washrooms

Flush toilets are available year-round at the Information Centre and the Astotin Theatre. Pump out style toilets are also available year-round at all trailheads except Hayburger Trail. During the summer months, flush toilets are also available at various locations in the Astotin Lake Area and in the campground. See the map of the Park for locations.

Telephones

Pay phones are available at the Astotin Lake Area (map) and in the Sandy Beach Campground (map) .

Trails

  • All-terrain wheelchair (manually operated by a companion) available on loan at no charge during summer season. Ask staff for details.
  • Shoreline Trail is a paved trail that is 6 km in length return. The trail begins at the Astotin Lake Area (map) and is wheelchair accessible.
  • The wheelchair accessible Living Waters Boardwalk (150 m) provides access to the shore of Astotin Lake.
  • Most pathways within the Astotin Lake Area are paved and wheelchair accessible.

Golf Course Club House

Light meals are available at the wheelchair accessible clubhouse of the golf course, however clubhouse washrooms are not wheelchair accessible.

Sandy Beach Campground

  • Campsite No.19 is equipped with a wheelchair accessible picnic table and barbecue.
  • This accessible campsite is located close to accessible washrooms and showers.
