Most campgrounds in Banff National Park are on a first come, first serve basis. Arriving early will give you the best chance of securing a site.

Check ahead for any seasonal restrictions.

  • FIRE PERMIT REQUIRED where fireboxes and firewood are provided. Boil water advisories may be posted.

CAMPSITE RESERVATIONS can be made for the blue campgrounds. To make a reservation, visit the 24-hour web service at www.pccamping.ca or dial toll free 1.877.737.3783 (1.877.RESERVE) (12 hr/day). Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

123 Tunnel Mountain Campground
2.4 km from Banff.

  • Situated close to Banff on Tunnel Mountain, walk or take the bus to downtown Banff. Services, such as food, laundry and a waterslide are close by. There is a wide-angle view of the valley, hoodoos, and the Banff Springs Golf course.
  • There are 321 full service sites in the Trailer Court, 188 power-only sites in Village II, plus 618 non-serviced sites in Village I (4 km from Banff).
  • Please note that 1/3 of the campsites in the Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court will be closed until the end of the 2010 operating season while we complete necessary utility upgrades. During this time Parks Canada will try to keep disturbances to our visitors minimal. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

4 Two Jack Main Campground   Map
12 km from Banff on the Minnewanka Loop

  • Open from May 22 to September 8, 2009
  • Camp in a beautiful wooded area with 380 secluded campsites and lots of wildlife. Explore the ruins of the coal-miners town of Bankhead. Bighorn sheep in the area may be on the roadways, so drive with care.
  • Kitchen shelters, flush toilets, no showers.

5 Two Jack Lakeside Campground   Map
12 km from Banff.

  • Open from May 15 to September 14, 2009
  • Right across the road from Two Jack Main is a small (74) site campground. Awaken to the sound of water flowing and birds chirping. Showers available.

6 Johnston Canyon Campground Map
25 km from Banff, on the Bow Valley Parkway.

  • Open from May 29 to September 14, 2009
  • Across from Johnston Canyon is a picturesque campground of 132 sites. A creek flows nearby and the scenery is awesome. Take a walk up Johnston Canyon, and view the two waterfalls. Lots of wildlife in the area. Showers available.

7 Castle Mountain Campground Map
34 km from Banff or 28 km from Lake Louise, on the Bow Valley Parkway.

  • Open from May 29 to September 8, 2009
  • 43 sites in a beautifully wooded area. Close to a small store, gas bar and restaurant. Flush toilets, no showers, kitchen shelters.

8 Protection Mountain Campground
48 km from Banff or 17 km from Lake Louise, on the Bow Valley Parkway

  • Open from June 26 to September 1, 2009 
  • 89 sites in area with wildlife and hiking trails. Flush toilets, piped cold water, kitchen shelters, fire rings and firewood, recycling bins, food storage, campground host program .

9 Camping du Lac-Louise Lake Louise Campground Map
58 km west of Banff

  • A forested site next to the Bow River. The campground is 1 km from the Village of Lake Louise and 4 km from the lake. Hiking and bicycling trails.
  • Campsite reservations are available on April 3rd, 2009 . To make a reservation, please visit the 24-hour Internet service at www.pccamping.ca or dial toll free 1.877.737.3783 (1.877.RESERVE) (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM), TTY: 1.866.787.6221.
  • In early spring (April/May) and late fall (October/November), tents and soft-sided trailers are not permitted in the Lake Louise Campground to help protect both people and bears. During these shoulder seasons, tenting is available at:
    • Mosquito Creek Campground
      24 kilometres north on the Icefield Parkway
    • Tunnel Mountain Campground
      58 kilometers east on the Trans-Canada Highway
    • Kicking Horse Campground (closes October 5th)
      23 kilometers west on the Trans-Canada Highway

9 Trailer - Open all year

  • 189 drive-thru sites in summer, 30 sites in winter.

10 Tent - Open May 22 to September 28, 2009

  • 210 unserviced sites.
  • Flush toilets, piped hot and cold water, showers, kitchen shelters, fire rings and firewood, recycling bins, food storage.

11 Mosquito Creek Campground
24 km north of Lake Louise on the scenic Icefields Parkway.

  • Open all year
  • The rugged cliffs of Mount Hector dominate the southeast skyline.
  • 32 unserviced sites with well water (hand pump), dry privies, kitchen shelter with wood cook stove, fire rings and firewood.

12 Waterfowl Lakes Campground
57 km north of Lake Louise on the Icefields Parkway.

  • Open from June 19 to September 7, 2009
  • The bubbling Mistaya River enters Waterfowl Lake. Hiking trail to Cirque and Chephren Lakes.
  • 116 unserviced sites with flush toilets, piped water, kitchen shelters with wood cook stoves, fire rings and firewood, food storage, recycling bins, sanitation station .

13 Rampart Creek Campground
88 km from Lake Louise on on the Icefields Parkway.

  • Open from June 26 to September 1, 2009
  • A small campground on the way to the Columbia Icefields. Great area for viewing wildlife and the scenic grandeur of the Rocky Mountains.
  • 50 unserviced sites with well water (hand pump), dry privies, kitchen shelters with wood cook stove, fire rings and firewood, smoke-free loop, recycling bins, food storage.
