No Stopping Zone: 1A Banff National Park

WHAT: Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, of the Canada National Parks Act, the following activity is restricted or prohibited by order of the Superintendent:
Stopping in this 320-metre zone between the ‘stopping is prohibited’ signs.
WHERE: Highway 1A west of Baker Creek and East of Protection Mountain Campground
WHY:
Grizzly bears are frequenting the area in search of food.
· Stopping creates traffic hazards such as grid lock.
· Stopping increases danger to wildlife through habituation to people and vehicles.
· Traffic congestion reduces the escape route for a bear evading passing trains.
PENALTY: Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.
