This spring and summer several Parks Canada parks and sites are celebrating 100 years of conserving biodiversity by participating in the Get to Know BioBlitz.

A BioBlitz is designed to highlight the biological diversity of a specific natural area, and in so doing develop a deeper understanding of the environment. The Get to Know BioBlitz is unique in that it uses both the creative arts and science to better connect young people to nature. Participants will be able to share their artwork and experiences through the Get to Know Online Biodiversity Gallery.

Alan Latourelle, CEO of Parks Canada, is committed to working with Get to Know to bring young people to natural settings: “Parks Canada believes it’s important to give youth the opportunity to connect with nature and our country’s heritage. Our parks, historic sites and marine conservation areas provide the perfect place to foster those connections, particularly this year as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first national park system in the world. We are pleased to join forces with Robert Bateman’s Get to Know by holding BioBlitz events in several of locations across the country.”

You are invited to various activities that will introduce you to some of the fascinating species that call our special places home. Visit the Get to Know website for more information on the BioBlitz and to find event locations.
