Find out how Banff National Parks Resource Conservation Specialists manage elk in the Banff townsite trying to maintain the balance that is the predator-prey relationship.
One of the most common wildlife sightings in Banff National Park are elk. Visitors may see them along the roadsides as they drive through the Bow Valley and they may also see Elk in the townsite, a place they escape to as a refuge from predators. Townsite elk stop becoming part of the natural system around them and can live almost 12 months a year in subdivisions and on people's front lawns.
