[text on screen: The weather station near the Sheep Creek base camp has been destroyed. Rich Devall and James Sievwright from Environment Canada along with Linh Nguyen from Parks Canada work on replacing it.]

Linh Nguyen:Last year when we came up in June we noticed that the weather station here had a huge bend in it and we’re trying to figure out what really happened here. We surmised it was either an animal attacking it but we never found any markings on the equipment, or an avalanche but then if it was an avalanche you would expect some of the trees in the background here to be broken.

[Linh’s colleagues work on dismantling the damaged weather station]
Linh: So, we don’t really know what happened but this is our weather station at Sheep Creek, it’s been running for the last 12-13 years.

Linh: So we work with Environment Canada because Parks Canada doesn’t always have the expertise for setting up these weather stations. It’s a joint collaboration to maintain the weather stations.

[Damaged weather station crashes to the ground]
Voices off screen: There it goes. Quite the dramatic effect . That was better

[Linh and colleagues assess the fallen station]
Environment Canada worker: All the plates survived, right on! Excellent. We really wanted to save that plate, eh.

[text on screen: They never did figure out what happened to the weather station. Sometimes even the equipment presents scientists with mysteries to solve.]

Voices off screen: …high wind but you never know. If it was really ice loaded, like a lot of ice and snow on the tower and then maybe some wicked high winds...
