During the winter there are no regular patrols and travel routes are unmarked. Up-to-date information on trail conditions is not available. Winter users need to be self sufficient and accept a high level of responsibility for their own safety.
Winter users are responsible for their own safety and are expected to make their own evaluations of weather, snow stability and avalanche danger, and their own decisions concerning campsite and route selection.
Winter Recreation Strategy
The Chilkoot is shared by a wide range of winter users. The Winter Recreation Strategy aims to fulfill Parks Canada's mandated obligations while addressing the needs and interests of various winter users. As part of the strategy every third weekend is set aside for non-motorized activities.
Local volunteers maintain the Father Mouchet Ski Trails for non-motorized recreation. Please refrain from driving snowmobiles on the ski trails. Your co-operation is appreciated.
The Chilkoot Trail and adjacent White Pass are a popular destination for Whitehorse and Skagway area residents to engage in a variety of winter activities.
