A Time to Remember, a World to Discover

The Canadian government decided to commemorate Sir Wilfrid Laurier on his family's property and to use the site to recreate the environment he grew up in. To get the most out of your visit, make your first stop at the interpretation centre, which features an exhibit on the highlights of his career and life. Members of the staff will be on hand to answer your questions and provide you with details of the day's activities. From the centre, head directly to the historic house next door; as soon as you step inside, you will be entering another era. Decorated with more than 600 pieces of period furniture and antique objects, this charming residence reproduces the interior of a mid-19th century country home. Outside, the old-style vegetable garden will surely sstimulate the curiosity of all gardeners.

At the Sir Wilfrid Laurier National Historic Site of Canada, guide-interpreters are on hand to accompany you at all times. Whether you come alone, as a couple, or as a family, take advantage of the guided tour of the historic house. Our interpreters will be delighted to describe the customs and lifestyles of the rural family during the mid-19th century. Steeped in the ins and outs of the Laurier house, they will let you in on some family secrets and amuse you with some interesting stories. This charming interior of yesteryear will allow you to relive the small, everyday gestures of the period, and some of life's major passages as well. You will also discover a number of little treasures such as the "Sunday" dinnerware set, the bucket bench, the ebony rosary and other antique objects.
