Grosse Île Development: Parks Canada Salutes Local Contributions
On September 22, a variety of stakeholders from Montmagny gathered at Grosse Île and the Irish Memorial National Historic Site of Canada to celebrate the approval of two promising projects for the site:
- restoration of the first-class hotel interior
- creation of the Berthier-sur-Mer river park.
Restoration of the interior of the first-class hotel
Restoration of the interior of the first-class hotel will make it possible to receive groups wishing to take advantage of Grosse Île’s enchanting setting. Furthermore, visitors will be able to learn about the holding conditions for immigrants kept under observation by visiting the rooms and common areas.
Creation of the Berthier-sur-Mer river park
Creation of the Berthier-sur-Mer river park will allow cruise ship passengers visiting Grosse Île to plan their trip by learning about the various activities offered.
The mobilization and involvement of the region’s tourism community, which oversaw financing for the first-class hotel restoration, were crucial to the projects’ success. These new endeavours will help reach new clienteles and better advertise the site’s multiple attractions.
