"Spring Festival" Opening Event

Saturday, May 21st

Fort Chambly is opening its doors for a new season. Join the traditional Maypole plantation ceremony with hosts dressed in period costumes alongside the lord of the land. Musicians and dancers from the Nouvel Opera will be on location to teach you how to dance around the Maypole.

On this occasion, the re-enactors of the Compagnie de Lacorne soldiers' school will conduct their manoeuvres in the surroundings of the fortification. Starting at 1 p.m., parents, children and friends are all welcome to enjoy this festive day!

Details of the day:

11 a.m.: Re-enactors' Arrival

1 p.m.: Celebration Preparations and Beginning of Onsite Animations

Maypole Preparation:

  • Maypole transport starting at the guard house
  • Lopping of the Maypole
  • Mounting and Decoration of the Maypole


  • Presentation on spruce beer with Emanuel Nivon
  • Planting of the vegetable garden and introduction to traditional varieties with heritage seed specialist Michel Richard and young adults from Les Jardins de la Terre
  • Cooking of a heritage recipe from New France with Chef Guillaume Cantin (Les Chefs, Les 400 coups, Cuisine patrimoniale du Quebec)

2 p.m.: Maypole Plantation Ceremony

  • The tree is darkened with black powder
  • Traditional dance around the Maypole with musicians and dancers from the Nouvel Opera

3 p.m.: The Soup is Served!

  • Sampling of a revised version of pea soup by chef Guillaume Cantin, in collaboration with Cuisine patrimoniale du Québec
  • Background music
  • Period dance in the backyard

The Compagnie de Lacorne soldiers' school continues with historic manoeuvres and re-enactments.

June 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Presented by the Escrime Mont-Royal club, this outdoor mixed epee tournament is organized in collaboration with Parks Canada.

While fencers cross blades on the grounds of the Fort-Chambly park, spectators will be able to learn the basics of fencing and enjoy historical activities between the bouts. You will attend quite a show!

Please note that the event is postponed to June 12 in case of rain.

From June 20th to October 10th

On the occasion of its fifth anniversary, the members of the Iris de Chambly Photography Club are presenting the group's "Free Expression" exhibition. More than 110 works to discover in two separate Chambly locations; the Parc de Fréhel and Fort Chambly, where the works are exhibited in the Park, the courtyard of the Fort and the Albani room.

Concours d'Élégance de Chambly VAQ

The Concours d’Élégance de Chambly - organized by Voitures anciennes du Québec inc. - will take place in the fort’s park. This gathering of vintage cars draws many visitors each year.

There will be a competition in period costume and many prizes.

Saturday and Sunday, August 20th to 21st

Enjoy a full weekend of special events at the Fort Chambly National Historic Site to celebrate St. Louis Day and the 21st edition of the Artistes sur le Champs Symposium.

Stroll through the military camp of the era enlivened by the Quebec Garrison and the Canonniers-Bombardiers de Québec. Watch demonstrations of old crafts and enjoy the many activities that are featured:

  • A trio of strolling musicians
  • New France outdoor cooking
  • An animation on the art of fortification
  • Play area
  • A food court with street food trucks.
  • More than fifty artists gathered together for the City of Chambly's Artistes sur le Champs Symposium.

Bières & Saveurs, 15th edition

From September 2nd to 5th

Bières & Saveurs (Beers & Flavours) is the largest brewing gathering in Quebec. The organizers, Bassin en Fête, this year celebrate the 15th anniversary of the event. On this occasion a number of thematic activities are in particular being offered at Fort Chambly.
