Summer or winter, by boat or on your skates, a trip down the canal will take you back to a bygone era. You can walk, ride, or snowshoe the 19 km of the former towpath and enjoy the charm of the canal, which has seen more than a century of history.

Snowshoeing and Cross-country Skiing

Subject to weather conditions

Outdoor enthusiasts are invited to use the strip along the canal. During winter, it is perfect for off-trail cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Although the canal’s path is accessible at all times, it is maintained from April 15 to November 15 only.

Boat and Water Sports Show

February 5 to 8

The 16th edition of the Montréal Boat and Water Sports Show will take place at the Place Bonaventure from February 5 to 8.

Parks Canada invites you to visit their booth for the occasion: make the most of this opportunity and plan your next memorable experience on the network of historic canals with the Quebec Waterways team.

Friends of the Chambly Canal will welcome you at the entrance to the Chambly and St-Jean-sur-Richelieu path.

Whether you’d like to spend the afternoon cycling, kayaking, or heading out on a geocaching adventure, they will be able to guide you in your activity.

As part of the Rendez-vous photo du Richelieu (Richelieu photo exhibition), Parks Canada will welcome two entirely new outdoor photo exhibitions.

Throughout the summer season, a visit to the Halte des moulins Langelier rest area (Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu) or the Chambly Canal’s Parc des Ateliers (Chambly) is an opportunity to admire the artistic talent from near and far.

The Ville de Chambly will celebrate the 350th anniversary of the construction of its first wooden fort and the arrival of its first inhabitants in style. Entertainment, family shows, and multidisciplinary performances are on the program to highlight this happy anniversary.

The Canada Day festivities will bring the Vieux-Saint-Jean and Chambly Canal’s Parc des Ateliers to life.

At the Parc des Ateliers, the Royal Canadian Legion Arras 34 invites the public to take part in family activities and to attend a parade as well as an official flag-raising ceremony.

In Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, enjoy entertainment for the whole family, attend the flag-raising, and cap off your evening taking in the fireworks, courtesy of the Fêtons le Canada committee.


Fête du nautisme

July 4 and 5

Following the success of the 2014 vintage, the Fête du nautisme is back this year to introduce young and old alike to the joys of nautical activities. All aboard!

Over a fun-filled weekend, Quebec’s water-sport fraternity comes together to bring you a range of activities and events on the Lachine Canal: you can canoe, kayak, go in a pedal boat or other small craft, enjoy a boat trip, or take part in organized activities, water safety workshops, demonstrations and much more!

Every Wednesday from July 8 to August 5, the city of Chambly, in conjunction with Parks Canada, invites families to the Sur l’air de Chambly concert series in the Chambly Canal’s Parc des Ateliers.

Don’t miss the latest artists performing outdoors at the Chamby Canal’s locks 1, 2 and 3 in a unique festive atmosphere.

MEC Run

Mountain Equipment Coop (MEC) has a challenge in store for you: line up in the Chambly Canal’s Parc des Ateliers for a 5 km, 10 km, or 21.1 km run, as well as a 42.2 km marathon on October 18.

Open to all categories of runners, from beginners to elite, this event will enable you to discover the Chambly Canal in all its glory.

Parks Canada invites the public to the City of Chambly’s Grande fête de la famille at the Chambly Canal’s Parc des Ateliers.

This year, once again there will be fun activities and entertainment for young and old alike. Participants will also be able to attend an evening concert, part of the Sur l’air de Chambly series.

In a festive atmosphere, the Défi Je Bouge (only in French) offers three types of challenges: a 5, 10 or 21,1K run recognized by the Quebec Athletic Federation (Fédération québécoise d’athlétisme), a 5 or 10K walk and a 20K bike ride for the whole family.

A 1K run is also organized for children as well as a 1 km walk for persons with mobility impairment.
