The canal below the Peterborough Lift Lock has long been a recreation spot for both visitors and locals in all seasons of the year. Boat traffic along the canal is visible on this webcam during the navigation season from May to October, and ice-skating is showcased in the winter. Ice conditions for winter skating on the canal are indicated safe when a green flag is flying, or unsafe by a red flag. Ice conditions are monitored daily by the City of Peterborough.
The Peterborough Lift Lock is the world's highest hydraulic lift lock, and is easily accessible by road or water.
