Info-Work: Brighton Road Swing Bridge

Peterborough, Ontario, January 21, 2019 – During the week of January 21, 2019, travelers can expect intermittent closures of the Brighton Road Swing Bridge located along the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site. These closures will allow the swing bridge hydraulic system to be filled and tested.

In order to complete these initial tests, the bridge will be swung into the open position causing intermittent road closures between the hours of 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Tuesday to Friday. During these times, the road could be closed to traffic for up to two hours. Parks Canada apologizes for the inconvenience.

The replacement of the Brighton Road Swing Bridge is part of Parks Canada’s unprecedented $3 billion investment over 5 years to support infrastructure work to heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas across Canada. These historic investments will mitigate health and safety risks, halt the loss of nationally significant built heritage, and stimulate the economy in communities across the country.
