Time: Programs are offered Monday through Friday at 10 am or by appointment only.
Duration: 1 hour
Options: Weather permitting, plan a picnic lunch and walk the Attikamek trail. Picnic tables available on site

How Does a Lock Work?
Suitable for children seven years and older
- See the lock up close!
- Learn why a lock was needed in Sault Ste. Marie.
- Discover how a lock works while viewing a model of the historic lock
- Learn new technical vocabulary.
- View the historic equipment still used today.
- Participate in a fun-filled question and answer puzzle activity that will test you new found knowledge.
Historic Costumes
Suitable for children five to twelve years old
- Step back in time when greeted by a Parks Canada interpreter dressed in period costume.
- Learn the importance of the historic lock.
- View photos of ships that came through the historic lock and find out what they carried.
- Learn about how people dressed in 1895.
- Try on children's costumes from the 1890s.
All About Dams
Suitable for children five to twelve years old
- View photos of different types of dams and find out why they are used.
- Experience a part of Canadian heritage while learning about the world's only remaining EMERGENCY SWING DAM found at the Sault Ste. Marie Canal.
- Participate in an interactive question and answer game.
Construct a “take-home” souvenir.
