LAST LOCKAGE – IMPORTANT!

Boaters are encouraged to follow these guidelines to help maximize chances of being locked through:
  • Please arrive early enough to allow for complete lockages in both directions
  • Times of first and last lockages of the day are not guaranteed. They are often affected by heavy boat traffic, water management and other station opening and closing duties of lock staff.
  • At lockstations with one lock chamber, boaters must arrive 30 minutes before closing. At lockstations with more than one lock chamber, 30 minutes per lock chamber is required. (i.e. three lock chambers, arrive 1.5 hours before closing).
  • At Ottawa Locks, boaters must arrive at least 3.5 hours before closing.
  • At swing bridges, including Brass Point Bridge, boaters must arrive 10 minutes before closing.
  • Pretoria and Hog's Back bridges will not operate Monday to Friday (except on statutory holidays) from 12:30pm - 1:15pm and 3:30pm - 5:45pm.
  • At Smiths Falls Detached Lock, the bridge will operate 'on demand' throughout the navigation season, except from June 23 to August 15, when the bridge will swing Monday to Friday at 9:30am, 10:15am, 11:00am and 11:45am. Bridge swings return to 'on demand' at 1:00pm.
Note:
Boat wake, wash and excessive speeds are major concerns along the Rideau Canal. Please drive at a safe speed and keep boat wake and wash to a minimum, especially when approaching smaller vessels, canoes and kayaks.
