Skating on the Rideau Canal

Take a skate along the world's largest skating rink! Each winter the historic Rideau Canal is transformed into a 7.8-kilometre skating rink. The world-famous skateway winds it way through the heart of Ottawa, stretching from downtown to Dows Lake.

The Rideau Canal skate season typically runs from January to late February. Check the ice conditions (613-239-5234) for up to date information.

Where: At Dows Lake on the Rideau Canal
When: 10am-4pm Friday, January 30; Saturdays and Sundays; and Mondays, February 9 and 16

Parka, our mascot, will put on her ice stakes for the occasion and you will be able to discover the Rideau Canal with her. Meet our Parks Canada employees who will help you discover the many ways you can enjoy this unique historic canal, Ontario's only UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bring home an official product as a souvenir!
