Fort Malden March Break Programme

Dates: Monday, March 14 to Thursday, March 17, 2016

Morning Programme Hours: 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m., Fees: $6.05 per child per day.

Full Day Programme Hours: 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Fees: $24.50 per child per day.

*REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED BY FRIDAY, MARCH 11, 2016. You can either register for our 1.5 hour programme, or fully immerse your child in a full day adventure at Fort Malden.

All for a Shilling a Day

Monday, March 14, 2016
Join the British Army! Take the Queen’s Shilling and put on the redcoat of a British soldier. Learn the drill of one of the soldiers that helped defend Amherstburg 200 years ago!

Morning Programme Activities:

  • Tour of the Fort
  • Dress up in redcoats
  • Learn the Drill of a soldier
  • Watch a Musket Firing Demonstration

Full Day Programme Activities:

  • All of the activities in the morning programme AND
  • Make model playdough cannon balls
  • Make a soldier’s tea cake in the Cookhouse
  • Learn about what a soldier carried and wore, full dress up
  • Learn to patrol the Fort, play a deserter game

Playing Soldier

Tuesday, March 15, 2016
Today is all about playing. All campers will learn to play the “Battle of Lake Erie” Capture the Flag game. Full Day Campers will paint model soldiers, and will get to hear music from the Fort’s period instruments, and even try playing some themselves.

Morning Programme Activities:

  • Learn about the Battle of Lake Erie
  • Play 1812 artefact clues game in the Museum
  • Play Battle of Lake Erie Capture the flag game with “boats” and “cannon balls”

Full Day Programme:

  • All of the activities in the morning programme AND
  • Model soldier painting
  • Make a cookie in the Cookhouse
  • Music Demonstration
  • Find the Bugler game

Scavenger Hunt

Wednesday, March 16, 2016
Become a Fort Malden “Xplorer” by completing the Scavenger Hunt! Prizes for all participants.

Morning Programme Activities:

  • Participate in the Xplorer scavenger hunt

Full Day Programme Activities:

  • Participate in the Xplorer scavenger hunt
  • General Brock’s Scavenger Hunt
  • Fort Malden Find the Traitor mystery game

“Man the Guns”

Thursday, March 17, 2016
Prepare yourselves for battle! Today, kids will learn all about forts and cannons, and how they defended Canada from invasion.

Morning Programme Activities:

  • Learn about forts and defences
  • Explore the ditches and bastions
  • Learn the steps to loading the cannons
  • Watch a mortar firing demonstration

Full Day Programme Activities:

  • All of the activities in the morning programme AND
  • Build your own Fort model
  • Learn about other Forts in Ontario
  • Man the gun, learn to manoeuvre one of the howitzers
  • Watch a 6 pdr firing demonstration
