Ottawa, Ontario, July 20, 2012 – There is more to politics in Canada than Parliament Hill, and for half a century Laurier House National Historic Site was the home of two Canadian Prime Ministers. It is a house where dignitaries shared stories over after-dinner drinks, where a crystal ball was regularly consulted, and where servants slipped in and out of rooms, observant of all.
On July 25, and August 22, 2012 English audiences can experience the fabulous Candlelit Tour at Laurier House National Historic Site. French audiences are invited on August 8, 2012. All tours begin at 7 pm. Reservations are required. Travel back in time and glimpse into the personal life of Prime Minister King as a Laurier House servant takes you behind the scenes and reveals the secrets that can only be discovered by listening to the whispers of ghosts in candlelight.
To make a reservation or to find out more about these Candlelit tours and other special events taking place at Laurier House, please contact Parks Canada at 613 992-8142 or at laurier-house@pc.gc.ca.
Black, or sweet and white, get it weekends at Laurier House
OTTAWA, ONTARIO, July 10, 2012 – Every weekend afternoon from July 7 to August 25, Laurier House National Historic Site offers a chance for visitors to sit back and enjoy traditional afternoon tea on the veranda. On Sundays, tea comes with an extra helping of theatre.
Afternoon Tea
When: Saturdays from July 7 to August 25, seating from 1 – 3 pm

The custom of taking afternoon tea originated in England in the 1840s, and remains a beloved ritual and special experience of tradition to this day. Each Saturday afternoon from 1pm to 3pm, from July 7 to August 25, 2012, Laurier House National Historic Site will continue this Victorian experience. Whether you take your tea black, or with milk and sugar, a delicious scone and jam will accompany your choice of a wide variety of tea. Reservations are required.
Sunday Theatre
When: Sunday afternoons in July and August at 1 pm in English and 3 pm in French
Admission: Adults $14.70 (Includes theatre, tea, scones and a tour of Laurier House)
Parks Canada is proud to launch another season of Theatre on the Veranda. From July 8 through August 19, as you enjoy our signature afternoon tea service, actors will transport you back to an important period in Laurier House history. One hundred years ago World War I was looming and this year’s play imagines how the War of 1812 seemed to political players in Ottawa at the turn of the last century.
English shows take place every Sunday at 1 pm. French shows take place at 3 pm. Reservations are required and we recommend arriving 15 minutes before your scheduled show time.
Both afternoon tea and Sunday theatre include a guided tour of Laurier House. To make a reservation or for more information about afternoon tea, Theatre on the Veranda or other special events, please contact Laurier House by telephone at 613-992-8142 or by email at laurier-house@pc.gc.ca.
