Education Programs
Bellevue House offers a series of education programs available November to March. Sessions last approximately 2 hours, and have been developed to support the Ontario Curriculum. These programs encourage the students to connect with the past and experience our places of national significance. Bellevue House is constantly enhancing site programs to create enjoyable learning experiences, and welcomes ideas from educators.

Discover the Villa
“Discover the Villa” is a glimpse into the life of Canada’s first prime minister and unique architecture is suitable for all grades. It is part of the regular offer, and can have activities added or tailored to meet your expectations. Please contact the site in advance to discuss the possible learning opportunities while discovering the Villa.

My Traditions, Our History (Grade 2)
“My Traditions, Our History” supports the Ontario Grade 2 Social Studies – Heritage and Citizenship expectations. During pre-visit activities, students will develop their language and arts skills by describing their family traditions and creating a family scrapbook page of their celebrations. On the day of your visit to Bellevue House, several selected students will share their individual family celebrations, and as a class we will discover how Canadians share many traditions.

Sir John A Macdonald - Political Leader (Grade 5)
“Sir John A. Macdonald - Political Leader” supports the Ontario Grade 5 Social Studies - Canada and World Connections Curriculum. Students will discuss the process of electing; and the roles of the various levels of government in Canada. Pre-visit activities will encourage students to work on their presentation skills and critical thinking by creating a party and platform. On “Election Day” (the day of your visit) students will present their parties, and experience the voting process through a mock election.

Sir John A Macdonalds Dream - The Making of Canada (Grade 8)
“Sir John A Macdonald’s dream - The Making of Canada” supports the Ontario Grade 8-History curriculum. Students may change classroom history by deciding to join or not join in Macdonalds dream –Confederation. In the classroom students will represent the 6 colonies who were considering entering Confederation. They will look at the benefits of joining Confederation, and the key individuals involved with such a monumental achievement. On the day of your visit, students will experience the Quebec Conference of 1864, and after a colonial debate, colonies entering Confederation will make their mark on the Proclamation of Canada, just as our Fathers of Confederation did.
