Time Travel into everyday lives within Louisbourg and tackle some new old skills
Conversation with Mme De Ganne, a part of the Time Travel experience © Parks Canada
Rub shoulders with Louisbourg’s resilient residents, time travelling into their challenging lives within a remote fortress and learning 18th century skills in a trio of workshops. Drop into the home of Madame DeGannes and try making lace by hand as she explains what it was like to raise six children while her military husband was off fighting wars. At the grand stone King's Bastion – Louisbourg’s fort within the fortress – hear the stirring tales of a soldier struggling with long hours and harsh winters, meagre rations and limited chances of promotion. Then enter the warm, aromatic kitchen at the Engineer's House for a blast of pure bliss. Take part in the complex procedure of recreating a rare Old World culinary treat in the New World – helping make hot chocolate over an open-hearth fire! Then sit back, sip and appreciate the pampered lives we live today.
