How to Get Here

L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site is located on the tip of the Northern Peninsula, 433 km north of Deer Lake along the Viking Trail (Route 430). The Viking Trail begins at the town of Deer Lake on the Trans-Canada Highway (Route 1). 20 km before of St. Anthony, turn onto Route 436 and drive for 30 km to L’Anse aux Meadows.

9 a.m. to 5 p.m., 1 June to 9 June and 28 September to 5 October
9 a.m. to 6 p.m., 10 June to 27 September

Fees

In addition to our regular fees, we offer a Viking Trail Pass. Valid for seven consecutive days, this pass provides entry to Gros Morne National Park, L’Anse aux Meadows, Red Bay, and Port au Choix National Historic Sites, and the Grenfell Historic Properties provincial site. Purchase your pass at any of these locations.

Facilities and Services

Alongside the interpretation of the Norse settlement, L’Anse aux Meadows offers hiking trails, picnic sites, and a gift shop. Bilingual guides are available from mid-June to Labour Day (the first Monday in September). The site, visitor centre, and washrooms are wheelchair accessible. Closed captioning of the bilingual audio-visual presentation is available on request.

Weather

We enjoy a temperate maritime climate. Weather patterns can change quickly. Be prepared for a variety of conditions. Bring sturdy footwear and warm, wind and waterproof clothing even in summer.

Temperatures on the Northern Peninsula are generally cooler than other areas of the province. During the summer days range from 15–20 °C (59–68 °F), and nights from 10–15 °C (50–59 °F).
