Travel back in time at Fort Beauséjour - Fort Cumberland this New Brunswick Day!

AULAC, NEW BRUNSWICK, July 26, 2011 –Parks Canada invites you to come out to Fort Beauséjour – Fort Cumberland National Historic Site August 1st to celebrate local heritage on New Brunswick Day where traditional skills will be on display.

Watch a skilled local blacksmith mold metal with his tools and enjoy a display of his finished products on our historic grounds. Step into the Visitor Centre to take part in traditional spinning and weaving demonstrations from local artisans. Demonstrations will be offered between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The Fort has plenty to offer on New Brunswick Day. Join us for a BBQ and bake sale from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and participate in draws for Centennial prizes throughout the day.

Be dazzled by the bright colors of giant kites dancing in the wind during a Kiting 101 activity offered by the Lignes au Ciel kite club. The kiting amateurs will be on hand for demonstrations and kite flying instruction from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Bring a kite and experience the powerful pull of the Tantramar winds along these historic hills!

Enjoy the natural beauty of the eastern edge of the Bay of Fundy as you explore the remnant fortifications on site. Become an explorer and complete the scavenger hunt. Dig to uncover the past by registering for the Beaubassin Public Archaeology Experience or join a guided visit of the fieldwork being done.

Visitors are also invited to enjoy a piece of free anniversary cake in honour of Parks Canada’s 100th birthday!
