Are you curious about the stories of Fort Langley’s past? Enhance your visit with our new audio tour and discover Fort Langley’s amazing history.

On your journey, you’ll discover the amazing relationships that developed between people of very different cultures. You’ll hear stories from a Chief Trader whose determined actions after a devastating fire helped save the Fort, a First Nations woman who shares her people’s reverence for the cedar and salmon, and a governor who drew a ‘line in the sand’ during the Fraser River gold rush, taking a stand for this country’s future.

You’ll explore everything -- from Fort Langley’s palisade, with its breathtaking views of the Fraser River; to the original Storehouse filled with a fascinating array of First Nations and Hudson’s Bay Company trade goods; to the historic room in the Big House where the colony of British Columbia was proclaimed.

Audio tour wands are available at the Visitor Centre, and are available in English, French, Chinese, German, Japanese and Spanish.

Fall Activities

(September 2 to December 19, 2014)

Start your visit with a Welcome at the main gate with a costumed interpreter. Discover the roots of this 1827 Hudson’s Bay Company fur trade post where British Columbia was proclaimed, and find out how Fort Langley influenced the course of Canada’s history. Next, explore the site, including the following activities:

  • Climb the rustic bastion towers, and enjoy a peaceful view of the Fraser River.
  • Hear the clang of the anvil at the blacksmith shop.
  • Visit the farm animals and see what is ready to harvest in the heritage garden (until October 13)
  • Pan for gold and build the walls of the playhouse.
  • Families, participate in the Parks Canada Xplorers program, packed with fun activities. Kids will receive a certificate and a souvenir as tokens of their success.
Schedule
  • 11:00 am (Mondays to Fridays) – meet our Collections Officer and see a variety of artifacts from the site's collection.
  • 3:00 pm (Daily) watch a coopering demonstration and learn how barrels were made.
  • 4:30 pm (Daily) – witness the lowering of the flag with song.
  • 11:00 am (Saturdays & Sundays)Introductory Tour – join a short tour providing a synopsis of Fort Langley’s story.
  • 12:30 pm (Saturdays & Sundays) – Blacksmithing – hear the clang of the anvil and watch our blacksmith bend steel!
  • 2:00 pm (Saturdays & Sundays)Musket Talk – find out about historic weapons used during the fur trade.
