A very personal connection to a very special place
Cameron Harris, great-great-great grandson of first lighthouse keeper George Davies, ascended Fisgard Lighthouse to commemorate its first lighting 150 years ago to the minute

Imagine following the steps of your great-great-great grandfather in a place where few set foot. On November 16, 1860 at exactly “half past 4 O’clock” as recorded in the log book, George Davies—first keeper of Fisgard Lighthouse—lit the lantern in the first permanent lighthouse on Canada’s west coast. One hundred fifty years later, to the minute, Cameron Harris, 17, Davies’ youngest great-great-great grandson, was given the honour of ascending the tight spiral staircase, oil lamp in hand, re-enacting that first lighting.
You too can connect with the past at Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Site. Perhaps you are a descendant of one of the twelve keepers that manned the lighthouse from 1860 to 1928. Perhaps you have a connection to the boating, shipping, or Canada’s navy, that the light serves. Or perhaps you can build your own lasting memories with friends and family. It’s an amazing venue for family reunions, weddings, taking part in a special event or just sitting back and savouring a picnic.
