The Bar U Ranch National Historic Site's own singer-songwriter-cowboy poet Lewis Martin Pederson, sitting at Round-up Camp, gets ready to perform Headin’ to the old Bar U.

Lewis starts playing guitar and singing:

I’m Headin’ to the Old Bar U; To the Foothills and the Trees

Ride again those Magic Hills; Stout Horse between my knees

To the horse corrals and big ol’ barn; Bunk house and Camp Cookee

I’m headin’ to the Old Bar U; Won’t you ride along with me?

It was way back in the Horse Days; When buffalo roamed the plains

We fed our hay with a team and sleigh; When Old Fred Held the reins

We’d salt the cows and horses; See elk and moose and deer

It’s good country for wild animals; That’s why Cowboys like it here!
