Take part in this a rare meeting between artists, culture and nature, as we celebrate 100 years of the world's first national parks service on Parks Day. The celebrations will be held along Lachine Canal – one of Montreal's most treasured places and a National Historic Site! Join us at the Centennial Esplanade, corner of St. Patrick and Pitt streets, for a fun-filled family day of festivities from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and a free outdoor concert feathering Marie-Mai and Les Trois Accords from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Paint the town green this summer and experience Canada's parks with Parks Canada. Bring the entire family down to Centre Island – one of Toronto’s favourite Parks.       Pick up a count brochure at the Visitor Reception Centre and start walking on the Park’s trails! For every 100 km completed, fill in a ballot for a chance to win prizes. Challenge yourself and your friends, family members and co-workers, but most of all, enjoy being active in a natural environment!

    • July 16 – BioBlitz Science Day at Callanders Beach
      Spend the day with the park’s scientists and participate in sampling data and laboratory monitoring activities. Meet at Callanders Beach between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and take part in one or more of these activities:
      • Butterfly and dragonfly inventory

      • Aquatic insect monitoring (for this activity, you will need to ride your bike to the site)

      • Exotic plant detection (for this activity, you will need to travel with your bike)

      • Soft-shelled clam population, juvenile recruitment and sediment composition

      • Express the artist in you by painting one of your discoveries on the large canvas

      • We recommend that participants register in advance by calling the park. This will allow us to better plan for the day.



    • July 16 – Exhibit on Canada’s National Parks Network
      On the way to Kellys Beach, stop by the yellow umbrella along the boardwalk to meet with heritage interpreters, tell us how many national parks you have visited and share your stories! We’re waiting for you between 2:00 and 3:30 p.m.!

    • July 16 – Artists in the Park
      Local artists demonstrate their art as they paint away under the Kouchibouguac summer sky and demonstrate how they produce banners for the Banner Festival in the local communities of Rexton, Richibucto and Saint-Louis-de-Kent. See the artists at work along the Kellys Beach Boardwalk.

      This weekly children’s program will focus on Parks Canada’s centennial celebrations. Participants will learn about Parks Canada, its goals and responsibilities and some of its major milestones. We will celebrate 100 years of making memories in Canada’s special places, and discover innovative new ways to make own our memories in national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas while leaving them unimpaired for future generations to enjoy.

      Park interpreters will be setting up two Celebration Stations (Cheticamp and Ingonish) in which photographs and stories will be on display for visitors in celebration of Parks Canada's centennial and Cape Breton Highlands National Park's 75th anniversary.

    • July 16 – Three Peaks Challenge
      Hike three peaks in 12 hours! You will have climbed over 1,300 metres and completed a half-marathon (21 kilometres). This is not a timed event but participants are expected to complete the challenge within daylight hours.

      Join us for the official opening of the refreshed exhibits in the Fort Anne Officers’ Quarters. Find out more about the skeleton that was found on the shoreline in 1994. Children can try on period clothing and have their picture taken.

      Enjoy a showcase of pageantry and fun with the 78th Highlanders to help celebrate Parks Canada’s centennial. Visitors will have a blast with the noon gun, tap their feet to the bagpipes and get close to the 6-pounder canon. Visitors can check out the two new period-style rooms and join in the celebrations with a piece of anniversary cake. Also, the Great Canadian Backyard Campout is back for its third year… Visitors will pre-register to camp inside the walls of the fort and we encourage more people to join us by pitching a tent in the own backyard!

      Join us and celebrate the Mi'kmaw, their culture, and their relationship to nature. In honour of Parks Canada’s 100th anniversary, we are celebrating sporting and guiding traditions as well as making new history with the release of the 100th head-started Blanding's turtle back into its natural habitat. Enjoy music by internationally acclaimed Eastern Eagle Singers, dance demonstrations, activities with cultural interpreters and a BBQ hosted by the Friends of Keji. 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Using GPS technology, you will be guided on a GPS Heritage Quest during which you will learn about the history of the north shore of Prince Edward Island, going back 100 years (or more!). Start your quest at the Cavendish Destination Centre or at the Dalvay-by-the-Sea Hotel, where you can rent a GPS unit, obtain instructions and get started! On July 16 enjoy a guided day hike on the Coastal Hiking Trail to White River where history is in the making with our spectacular new suspension bridge installation. Paddle Hattie Cove in a real birch bark canoe. Support our partners and “dine out” at the barbeque offered by Friends of Pukaskwa volunteers all weekend long. Hattie Cove Visitor Centre features nature activities led by Parks Canada interpreters. Guided boat tours and kayak excursions are available by reservation. The highlight of Parks Day July 16 is a traditional feast celebrating the official opening of the Bimose Kinnomagnewan Trail.

      The Rideau Canal Museum is housed in a 19th‑century stone building that was once a mill: the Woods Mills Complex. Inside, high-tech displays and a variety of artefacts bring the history of the canal to life: its construction from 1826 to 1831, its role throughout history, and the distinct lifestyle and folklore associated with the Rideau Waterway.
      Explore the unique Tunnel of History. Take a short climb to the lookout to see a panoramic view of the canal and the town of Smiths Falls. Test your skills as a canal captain in a steerable model boat. Sit back in the museum’s auditorium to view a short presentation.

      Parks Canada Xplorers Program is a new national initiative launched on June 1, 2011 that encourages discovery through games and fun activities. Designed for children aged six to eleven, it will offer them and their families the opportunity to explore national treasures in an engaging and fun way.
