Updating Canada's Tentative List

The Challenge

The challenge in preparing an updated Tentative List has been to select a limited number of sites from a wealth of potential candidates. Given the breadth of Canada’s natural and cultural heritage, a full list of places of possible outstanding universal value could be very long indeed. The selection of eleven sites is a decision that acknowledges the World Heritage Committee’s limit of one nomination per year, and not necessarily one for every country every year. The intended lifespan of this Tentative List is therefore about ten years.
