End Note
Consultations with provincial and territorial governments, which took place in 2003, elicited more suggestions, such as the boreal forest site jointly proposed by Manitoba and Ontario with full support of the local First Nations. An IUCN global study of boreal forests completed in 2003 confirmed the significance of this proposal. They were all passed through the same “sieve” and evaluated by Mr. Thorsell. Sites that had not been supported by the province or the territory concerned were not retained. The Minister’s Advisory Committee had the difficult task to reduce the number of natural sites which would be included in the Tentative List.
