- Parks Canada was the first government service in the world dedicated to national parks.
- Howard E. Sibbald was the first “Chief Game Guardian” working for Canada’s national park service. He started his job in 1909.
- In 1911, J.B. Harkin became the first Commissioner of the Dominion Parks Branch.
- In 1914, the word “Warden” was given to the “fire and Game Guardians” for the first time. It was chosen to differentiate Canadian parks officers from their American “ranger” counterparts.
- In 1930, the first Canada National Parks Act was passed.
- The first official uniform for Park Wardens was created in 1938.
- Parks Canada operates the world’s largest mobile avalanche control program.
- Nahanni National Park and L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site were both part of the first group of sites to be included in the UNESCO’s prestigious World Heritage List.
