Kluane National Park and Reserve of Canada
Weather
Kluane National Park & Reserve can experience sudden and dramatic climatic contrasts due to its size, rugged terrain, and proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Much of the park has a dry, cold continental climate, while south-eastern portions are subject to coastal influences, including more precipitation.
Recorded temperatures range from 33°C (91°F) to -50°C (-58°F).
Because of its location north of the 60th parallel, summers in Kluane National Park & Reserve are generally warm, with long hours of daylight (up to 19 hours), while winters are long and dark (as little as 4 hours of daylight). The mean temperature in June is 11°C (52° F) and -21°C (-6°C) in January. At higher elevations the temperature is generally colder and weather is more unpredictable. Frost may occur at any time of year. By the end of October there is ice on many of the lakes.
Rain or snow can fall at any time on the year and freezing temperatures are possible even during the summer. The best way to deal with the weather is to prepare for all conditions.
