People of all ages are welcome to join programs provided by Parks Canada staff.


Campfire Talks

Join a park interpreter around the campfire circle at the Kathleen Lake campground for one of the oldest northern traditions --- telling stories around a cozy campfire.

Bring a mug for tea!

All campfire talks begin at 8 p.m.
Kathleen Lake Campground is located 26 km south of Haines Junction.

Reconnecting to My Land and My Heritage
Join Amber for an intriguing talk about her journey gaining traditional knowledge. Hear about the coming of the Alaska Highway and the many changes that it brought to the people, land and animals of Kluane.

A Journey Into The Past
Venture back in time with Parks Canada Interpreter Katarina. Discover the fascinating history of Canada’s National Parks System and learn the story behind the establishment of Kluane National Park and Reserve.

Living Ice
Dive into a sea of mountains, icefields and glaciers with Parks Canada interpreter, Katarina and discover how the ice has been shaping Kluane’s cultural and natural world for the past thousands of years.

Keeping Bears Safe in Bear Country
Join Janice to learn about the bears in Kluane National Park and Reserve, and how Parks staff work towards keeping them safe and wild.

Meet at the Tachal Dhal Visitor Centre for this 10 Km hike. Bring lunch, water and comfortable and sturdy footwear.

Meet in the theatre for a viewing of ‘Conquest of Mount Logan’ - the 1925 film documenting the first climb of Mount Logan.

July 6

Geocaching on the Dezadeash RiverTrail
7:30 – 9:30 PM
Fee - $4.90/person
Meet at the Dezadeash River Trailhead (by the river), and search for locations along the trail. Bring a GPS if you have one—we will have some to share.

Guided Hike - 10am-4pm
King’s Throne Trail.
Fee - $19.80/person

Meet at the Kathleen Lake Day Use Area for a strenuous hike up to the bowl of the King’s Throne. Bring lunch, water and comfortable and sturdy footwear. Distance: 10 km

Guided Yoga Hike - 10am-3pm
St. Elias Lake Trail
Fee - $19.80/person

Meet at the St. Elias Lake Trailhead for a leisurely walk interspersed with yoga to this peaceful lake set amongst the mountains. Bring lunch, water and comfortable and sturdy footwear. Distance 7.6 Km

Kluane National Park and Reserve Visitor Centre
Meet in the theatre to view a variety of Kluane short films on the big screen. These films range from an overview of the Kluane Icefields to how mountaineering has changed over the years.
