SaskPower has identified trees in Waskesiu, on both park and leasehold properties that are adjacent to the powerlines and require pruning or removal. The multi-year program will begin in February 2013.
This winter, SaskPower crews will concentrate on removing priority hazardous trees in areas parallel to highway 264, behind Red Deer campground, down Ajawaan road and along the alleys behind Montreal Drive, the Post Office and RCMP detachment. Some trees in the alley that runs behind Armstrong Hillcrest Cabins to the Hawood Inn will also be pruned or removed.
In summer 2013, SaskPower and Parks Canada will conduct open houses in Waskesiu to inform the public about future plans to trim and remove trees that are near SaskPower primary lines in subdivisions in Waskesiu, and to recommend what shrubs and trees are appropriate for planting near a powerline. Anyone whose leasehold has a tree on it scheduled for removal will be contacted directly.
Parks Canada supports SaskPower in this program. Ensuring reliable power and protecting the safety of visitors and staff is our primary concern.
