Guided School Programs 2017

School programs available May 29 to June 16 and September 25 to October 6, 2017.

Due to a high demand, Prince Albert National Park will be booking spring school programming from April 17 to April 28, 2017. Dates for school programs are booked on a first come first served basis. Any bookings taken after April 28 will be deferred to the autumn of 2017.

Heritage Presentation Special Programs:

Heritage Presentation Special Program fees are $73.60/hour plus a $2.90/student/day Prince Albert National park entry fee.

Please note: School programs are two hours in length.

Forest Friends

K - Grade 3
Using your five senses discover the forest homes that our animal friends live in and how we are connected to them. Experience the sights, sounds and smells while exploring the park habitat animals depend on.

Wetland Wanderers

Grade 3 - 6
What lives in the water? From bugs to beavers, you will be surprised as you wander the wetlands to see who makes this place their home and how they interact with the surrounding community.

Bison Boot Camp!

Grade 4- 12
March to the Queen of the Herb Bison sergeant and roam into the world of bison via bison chants, a scavenger hunt to build a bison and interactive activities about intricate connections with First Nations. The Bison Boot Camp school program has been enhanced this year with the addition of pre and post visit activities. Please consider booking Bison Boot Camp and piloting these pre and post visit activities in your classroom. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Boreal Explorer

Grade 4- 12
Spruce trees, wolves, elk, fire and you are part of this Boreal forest. Explore the interactions within this community and find out how you can be a guardian of the forest.

School programs include sampling and data collection just like real field studies.

Aquatic Diversity

Grade 7-12
Students explore the river or lake from the 'inside-out'. Learn how a water environment creates both challenges and opportunities for life. Discover the diversity and interactions in this ecosystem.

Basic Park School Program:

The basic park school program includes a guided tour of the Nature Centre and an orientation to the park. Fee is $3.90/student/day. Please note if the booking is made outside of regular Nature Center hours there will be a charge of $73.60/hour. Note: Due to renovations Nature Centre tours will not be available in the spring of 2016.

Explore the Park on your own:

  • Choose one of the four self-guided hiking trails: Mud Creek, Treebeard, Boundary Bog, or Waskesiu River.
  • Sign out a Nature, Geocache, or an Aquatic kit for a ‘hands-on’ boreal forest adventure with your class.

Cancellation Policy:

  • If you need to cancel your program for any reason, please notify us within 24 hours of your booking so we may accommodate other groups on our waiting list
  • If you are late on the day of the program, please phone the Visitor Centre at (306) 663-4522 or the Interpretation department (306)-663-4510
  • Note: If the park is not contacted, interpreters will wait 15 minutes before they leave the meet and greet location, then the program is cancelled and you will be charged the full amount.
  • We thank you for your cooperation

General Information:

  • No charge for teachers, chaperones, or those status within treaty 6. Adults must accompany each group of 6-8 students and participate in the program. All forms of payment accepted. Please make cheques payable to Receiver General for Canada.
  • Students should dress appropriately and be prepared for at least two hours in the outdoors.
  • Phone Visitor Centre at (306) 663-4522 for group camping.
  • A Check List is attached to give to your students and/or parents to outline what you should wear, what to do on the bus, and on the trail.
  • Please contact or 306-663-4510 to determine if there are any pre and post visit activities for the program you have chosen. On-line resources are currently under development.
