In 2017, the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation will be celebrated by Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast. At Prince Albert National Park, we are preparing for a year of festivity by inviting Canadians to celebrate with us all throughout this momentous year. As a special gift to you, entry to all Parks Canada places, Including Prince Albert National Park, will be free in 2017.

Party on the Pond

February 3 - 5, 2017

An Authentic Canadian shinny tournament on the pond at Elk Ridge Resort. Exciting 4 on 4 hockey action with men’s, women’s and over 40 divisions. Come for the day to check out the hockey action or stay for the weekend and enjoy the best of winter. Area attractions include Ice skating on the pond or at the in-door rink in Waskesiu, a toboggan hill, cross-country skiing and ice fishing on Waskesiu Lake!

Waskesiu Snow Days

February 17 – 26, 2017

In celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday entry to all national parks and historic sites, including Prince Albert National Park, is free throughout 2017; start your year of free adventures at Waskesiu Snow Days February 17-26th. Embrace winter in the beauty of Saskatchewan’s Boreal Forest and enjoy a number of free activities for the whole family!

Join us in Prince Albert National Park for winter programming, skiing, skating, snowshoeing, ice fishing, campfires, and more throughout the week! Remember to pick up a Xplorer or Club Parka book and geocaching kit from the Visitor Centre and borrow skis, snowshoes, or chariot strollers with ski attachments from the Hawood Inn! After a day of activities, start a fire and warm up in the enclosed camp kitchen near the main beach!

National Aboriginal Day

Celebrate 150 years of Canadian Confederation and the spirit of National Aboriginal Day at the grand re-opening of the Prince Albert National Park Nature Centre!

Be one of the first to take a tour through the new exhibits and learn about this unique part of Canada. Pristine lakes and stunning forests aren’t the only draws at Prince Albert National Park! It’s also a great place to discover more about Canada’s rich Indigenous cultures. Connect with nature while being inspired by the strong traditions and cultures tied to the park!

O Canada! You’re invited to our nation’s 150th birthday party!

In 2017, the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation will be celebrated by Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast, including right here in Waskesiu! With this being a milestone year, this will be a Canada day like none other!

Start your day off with a hearty pancake breakfast, followed by a lively parade, a flag raising ceremony, and a delicious birthday cake. Want to showcase your Canadian pride? Join the bike parade where all ages are encouraged to decorate their bike and be a part of the celebrations! Stay for the day and explore some of Canada’s natural wonders out on the trails or on the lake!

Waskesiu Heritage Museum - Yard Sale

Saturday July 8, 2017

Annual Yard Sale in the town site of Waskesiu. Shop for bargains and treasures on the museum grounds from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Hot dogs and lemonade are served starting at 11:00.

Help turn unwanted items into support for the museum! If you have any items to donate, please contact the museum rather than dropping them on the site. If you would like to sell some of your own things, you can rent a table by contacting the museum.

Parks Day and Waskesiu Children’s Festival

Continuing the excitement of Canada’s 150 years as a nation, we want to also celebrate our leaders of tomorrow!

Come and join us on a fun filled day for the entire family! Parks Canada, the Waskesiu Chamber of Commerce and Recreation Association Children’s Festival are celebrating Canada’s proud past and bright future. This is a day to connect with nature, history, friends, and family! Face painting, crafts, balloon art, puppet shows, music tent, fire truck tours and Indigenous games are just part of the excitement. Remember that in 2017 admission to the park is FREE – so invite your entire family to join us for this Waskesiu traditional favourite!

Three Island Paddle & Music Festival

Saturday July 22, 2017 
Join the Waskesiu Marina Adventure Center for a fun filled day of paddling and music at the Hanging Heart Lakes. Bring your paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes or reserve a boat ahead of time from the Waskesiu Marina Adventure Centre. Paddle to different destinations on the Hanging Heart Lakes to be eligible for terrific prizes. There are even prizes for best theme or costumes!

11th Annual Waskesiu Summer Dance – Rock of Ages

Waskesiu Chamber of Commerce and Recreation Association sponsored dance held at the Terrace Gardens (Assembly Hall). Dance the night away to the music of the 60's, 70's, and 80's! Dance at 9 pm with a midnight lunch.

Frank Dunn Triathlon

Sunday August 13th, 2017


For 35 years the Frank Dunn Triathlon has challenged participants in Prince Albert National Park.

Triathletes compete by swimming 1.5 km in Waskesiu Lake; hitting the road for a 62 km bicycle ride, and then running 13 km run in and around the town site of Waskesiu. The morning starts with a pancake breakfast at the community hall.

Waskesiu Heritage Museum – Heritage Day

The good old days of Waskesiu are brought to life at Heritage Days. Living in a shack tent, old fashion games like sack races and treats like grandma makes are all waiting for you at the Waskesiu Heritage Museum’s Heritage Days.

Family Activities - 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. at the Waskesiu Heritage Museum grounds.

Waskesiu Lakeside Festival

In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation, this year’s festival will be even bigger and better!

Grab your dancing shoes, explore the displays, or kick back and enjoy the performances at the Waskesiu Lakeside Music Festival. This three-day event is jam packed with a variety of FREE family activities, including live on stage musical entertainment, interpretive activities, displays highlighting Prince Albert National Park’s conservation projects, a pancake breakfast, food vendors, and beer gardens. Mark your calendars - this is an event you don’t want to miss!

Arbour Day

Members of the local community come together to plant trees and support the healthy ecosystems in Prince Albert National Park.

 The town of Waskesiu comes together to celebrate our trees and green spaces! The annual Arbour Day tree planting and community celebration event takes place every year during the Labor Day long weekend. Show your support by helping plant trees and creating habitat for the creatures that call Waskesiu home!

Reel Rave International Film Festival

Friday September 8 to Sunday September 10, 2017 
A weekend of movie magic, Waskesiu style! Feature films, shorts and documentaries are screened at the Twin Pine Cinemas in the heart of Waskesiu. Social engagements are scheduled throughout the festival giving you the opportunity to discuss the films with other festival patrons.

Now entering its 13th year, the Reel Rave Film Festival is a fundraising endeavour for the Waskesiu Recreation Association. . The festival is part of the Toronto International Film Festivals Film Circuit.

K+S MS Bike  – Waskesiu Lake

The largest cycling event in Saskatchewan, is a fundraiser that offers cyclists of all abilities and ages the opportunity to ride through breathtaking Waskesiu in the fall in the fight to end MS – Canada’s disease.
