Sustainable Development Project of the Penouille Peninsula
The many unique aspects of the Penouille Peninsula are among the natural wonders that Parks Canada protects and promotes. The peninsula’s hiking and mountain-biking trails, extraordinary views of Gaspé Bay, and magnificent sandy beach alone are enough to justify a trip to Forillon National Park.

The main goals of this sustainable development project are to
- Provide public access that is sustainable and takes the fragility of the environment into account
- Provide new, enriching, and attractive visitor experiences
Look Before You Leap
Before undertaking a project of this type, it is important to identify and understand the ecological and tourism issues involved. Studies have been conducted over the last three years and used to develop management scenarios that fit Parks Canada’s mandate.
The project addresses the needs surrounding visitors, wildlife, plants, and historical remnants, and each of these three aspects has been carefully thought through.
