A Peninsula Profoundly Marked by Human Presence
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Grande-Grave bustled with activity from May to October. Under the long-armed control of two powerful fishery companies, hundreds of families along the coast and many seasonal workers fished cod, then dried and salted it to produce the world-famous "Gaspé Cure", massively exported to Italy, Spain and the Caribbean.

Hyman & Sons General Store, Anse-Blanchette and Dolbel-Roberts House tell the fascinating tale of the people who came to settle the land on Forillon Peninsula to make the most of the cod fishery. Learn about the history of the cod trading companies, the lifestyles of the people who fished the waters and farmed the fields and the diversity of cultures, religions and traditions through the activities organised by guide-interpreters to help you explore the displays in authentic, period building.
