Parks Canada joins forces with the local Célébrations Canada Gaspé committee
Gaspé (Quebec), June 19, 2013 – Parks Canada and the local Célébrations Canada Gaspé committee are working together to offer the public a day of festivities and family fun on July 1 ― Canada Day. Admission to Forillon National Park will be free for the day.

From hiking to biking to diving (and more) – an infinite array of activities are on tap at the park. “‘Open house’ day is the perfect opportunity to enjoy new experiences and share memorable times with your family in the park,” said Stéphane Marchand, Superintendant of Forillon National Park, by way of invitation. At lunchtime, head to the Recreation Centre in the South Area for a family picnic. Bring your favourite food, or opt for the special barbecue meal offered on site. Access to the pool in the Recreation Centre will be free for children aged 16 or under from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

While you’re at the Recreation Centre, be sure to watch the musical show Gallantine au parc Forillon (in French only) at 1:00 p.m. Gallantine takes children on a fun-filled adventure that introduces them to humpback whales, cliff birds, bear cubs and the many other animals of Forillon. The show is followed by a creative workshop for young budding artists.
Throughout the afternoon, the interpretation team will hold special on-site activities. Face painting, door prizes and other surprises are in store! Take advantage of the opportunity to meet Parks Canada’s mascot Parka or visit one of the new oTENTik tent-cabins, the ideal accommodations for an unforgettable family getaway!
Croisières Baie-de-Gaspé will also be offering two whale-watching cruises on open house day (departures from Grande-Grave wharf at 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.). Cruises will be free for children aged 15 or under. (Places are limited! Be sure to reserve by calling 418-892-5500.)
Celebrations in downtown Gaspé
In Gaspé, you can attend the traditional official ceremony at the Monument des Braves near the bridge at 11:30 a.m.; veterans and representatives of the Gaspé branch of the Royal Canadian Legion will be in attendance. At 8:00 p.m., make your way to the Centre récréatif Luc-Germain for a concert starring Pascal Bessette during the first half, followed by the group Pamela Rooney and the Exceptions. “We are very pleased to partner with Parks Canada in order to offer the citizens of Gaspé this excellent program of events for the 15th edition of Canada Day in Gaspé,” concluded Nancy Rochefort, chair of the Célébrations Canada Gaspé committee.
