Nature Interpretation Activities

As if the scenery is not enough, the activities that make up the park's interpretation program will give you a greater understanding of the reasons why Parks Canada protects this portion of the Appalachians. Forillon is sure to charm you.

Summer 2013 program

For everyone

  • Le monde sous-marin de Grande-Grave (Duration : 1 hour 30 min.)
    Offered in French only. Grande-Grave beach, Wednesdays at 10:30 am, from June 22 to August 25. This activity will immerse you in the teeming waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence!

  • Creatures of the deep (Duration : 1 hour)
    Interpretation Centre, Wednesdays at 4 pm, from June 22 to August 25. An eye-to-eye look at the life hidden below the surface. Living organisms.

  • La vie du bord de mer (Duration : 1 hour 30 min.)
    Offered in French only. Petit-Gaspé Beach, Tuesdays and Thursdays from August 26 to September 14. Schedule according to tides. Check with park staff for the precise schedule. Find out just what lives on the seashore! Life on the beach may just not be so easy after all. Appropriate footwear recommended because the rocks may be slippery.

  • The Beaver’s Turf (Duration : 1 hour 15 min.)
    Le Castor parking lot, every evening of the week at dusk, from August26 to October 12. Check with park staff for the precise schedule. Bilingual presentation on Sundays and Thursdays. Come pay a visit to the Canadian beaver in its own domain? Sturdy shoes or hiking boots recommended, as is a flashlight.

For families

  • Les dimanches en famille à Grande-Grave (Duration : approx. 4 h)
    Offered in French only. Grande-Grave beach, Sundays at 10:30 am to 2:30 pm (with picnic break), from June 22 to August 25. Marine organisms, games and fun challenges mixing both nature and culture! Bring your picnic and come spend a few hours with us.

  • Mission aquanaute (Duration : 1 hour)
    Offered in French only. Interpretation Center, Mondays and Thursdays at 4 pm, from June 22 to August 25. Your mission: to find the treasure hidden on Forillon’s sea bottom. See live organisms up close. Children aged 2 to 8 years.

  • Les secrets de la roche (Duration : 1 hour 30 min.)
    Offered in French only. Interpretation Center, Fridays at 1:30 pm, from June 22 to August 25. Mountains created from the ocean floor! Fossils of long disappeared animals! Forillon’s rocks have quite a tale to tell.

  • Ça grouille à Penouille (Duration : 1 hour 30 min.)
    Offered in French only. Penouille Visitor Centre, Saturdays at 1:30 pm, from June 22 to August 25. With your ten toes in the sand, come discover the plants and animals that have chosen to live in this unique and fragile habitat. Immersable shoes or sandals recommended.

Guided oustings

  • Randonnée à la tour du Mont Saint-Alban (Duration : 2 hours)
    Offered in French only. Cap-Bon-Ami picnic area, Mondays at 10 am and Thursdays at 1:30 pm, from June 22 to August 25 and Saturdays at 1:30 pm, from August 26 to September 14. Follow the guide to the observation tower on Mont Saint-Alban where a 360° panorama awaits you. The 2-km trail climbs steadily.

  • A la découverte de Cap-Gaspé (Duration : 3 hours)
    Offered in French only. Anse-aux-Amérindiens picnic area, Tuesdays at 1:30 pm, from June 22 to August 25 and Mondays at 1:30 pm, from August 26 to September 14. Travel through time along a trail that takes you to Land’s End!

Curious in nature…

Park guide-interpreters are on the spot to help you make the most of Forillon’s marvels. Whether you spot them at the Curious in nature stand at Cap-Bon-Ami, at the Interpretation Centre or with a Naturalist on duty sign, feel free to ask them any questions you may have and they’ll be delighted to answer you.

Lively evenings! (in french only)

Every evening from June 22 to September 14, Forillon promises the liveliest of evenings. Talks, presentations, astronomy and other special activities are being planned. Check the park bulletin boards or ask park staff for more detailed information.
