Winter Activities
While Prince Edward Island National Park will remain open for Islanders and other visitors to continue to enjoy, facilities in the park will be closed between Thanksgiving Day and Victoria Day.
The trails, beach accesses and washroom facilities will not be maintained and there will be no emergency service provided by Parks Canada.
Trail users can continue to use the cross-country ski trails by breaking their own trail and visitors can continue to explore and enjoy the park, by hiking, showshoeing, viewing wildlife or doing other winter activities. Anyone exploring the national park in the winter is reminded that they are responsible for their own safety and should be sure to properly prepare and plan for their trip, taking the necessary precautions to protect themselves from inclement weather and potential natural hazards found in the park.
During the winter, Parks Canada will continue to clear snow from the Gulf Shore Parkway between Cavendish and North Rustico and between Brackley and Dalvay to allow access, and a number of parking areas will be kept cleared for parking. However, cross-country ski trails will not be groomed and Dalvay Lake will not be cleared or flooded for skating.
The following areas will be kept cleared of snow to allow for visitor parking:
Between Cavendish and North Rustico:
- A small area at the entrance to the campground road for access to the Homestead Trail (3 to 4 cars)
- Cavendish Beach parking lot for access to Cavendish Beach, Cavendish Grove and nearby trails (20 cars)
- The parking area at Macneills Brook Lookoff and the parking lot near the kiosk at North Rustico for water views and beach access
Between Dalvay and Brackley:
- The parking area at Shaw’s Beach will be cleared for beach access
- The Dalvay parking lot overlooking the water for water views
- The parking lot beside the Dalvay administration building and trail house for access to Woodlands trail
- The Farmlands and Bubbling Springs Trails parking lot for trail access
- The Ross Lane parking lot (south side of Gulfshore Parkway)
In Greenwich:
- The highway and a portion of the Visitor Information Centre parking lot
