Beaches

There are numerous spectacular beaches located within Prince Edward Island National Park, from Cavendish to Greenwich. There are seven supervised beaches within the Park. They are as follows:

  • Cavendish Campground Beach (for campers only)
  • Cavendish
  • North Rustico
  • Brackley
  • Ross Lane
  • Stanhope
  • Greenwich

Surfguards are on duty from late June to late August. White sand and blue seas abound. Please note that dogs are not permitted on the beach between April 1 and October 15 annually.

Fishing

Fishing is permitted in Prince Edward Island Park. Licenses are required for fishing in ponds and streams. National Park Fishing Act and Regulations apply. Fishing for some species is also permitted in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Please contact us at 902-672-6350 for information on licenses and regulations.

Boating

There are opportunities for canoeing and kayaking in the park on the various ponds as well as in the Gulf of St.Lawrence. Enjoy beautiful scenery and serenity. Motorized watercraft are not permitted within the National Park waterbodies.

Picnicking

The park has several picnic areas with shelters: Stanhope Cape, Cape Turner and North Rustico. Brackley and Cavendish East day-use areas as well as Stanhope Beach also feature playground equipment.

Interpretation Programs

A wide range of interpretive activities are held daily throughout Prince Edward Island National Park and Green Gables throughout the summer.

These entertaining, educational activities are offered in both English and French, and are fun for the whole family. Please inquire with Park staff, or check one of the many information bulletin boards for a list of the weekly interpretive activites.

Cross-country Skiing

The Woodlands Trail (near Dalvay) and the Cavendish Grove Ski Trails (off Rte # 6 in Cavendish) are tracked for cross-country skiing during the winter months. Warm-up shelters are located nearby as well as washroom facilities. Call 902-672-6404 for snow conditions.

Skating

Weather conditions permitting, during the winter months a skating area is cleared on beautiful Dalvay Lake, near Dalvay-by-the-Sea National Historic Site. Call 902-672-6404 for ice conditions.
