As a canoe and kayak guide for more than ten years, Julie has had the opportunity to travel some of the most remote wilderness areas of Northern Ontario, forming a deep personal connection to the natural world. As a painter, she translates landscapes into stunning large-scale, abstract compositions examining this connection. “The importance of the landscape, and the specific landscape I inhabit... [have] become the central inspiration in my painting, extending into a broader concern for changing visions and understandings of landscape in the age of intensifying technological innovations and dwindling wilderness and natural spaces.” How will Pukaskwa’s landscape translate onto Julie’s canvas? There’s only one way to find out.
