Who can camp

Camp outside under the beautiful Carolinian Canopy at Little Raccoon North and Little Raccoon South in the heart of Point Pelee National Park. Our group camping facilities are ideal for organized groups of all ages. Two large, grassed and fully serviced sites are a perfect home base providing easy camper access to beaches, canoe adventures, the park’s Visitor Centre, and several kilometers of hiking, biking, and bird watching trails. The large grassy areas are great for activities, picnics or team-building exercises. During our summer season, take part in our world-class interpretive activities. Year round camping is available for:

  • Not-for-profit adult groups such as nature groups or recognized clubs
  • Youth groups such as Scouts, Brownies, YMCA and social groups
  • Educational groups comprised of full-time students enrolled at a recognized educational institution
  • Home school groups

Capacity

Group tent camping is divided into two separate camping areas- Little Raccoon North and Little Raccoon South. Each site has a maximum capacity of 20 campers.

Notice: The Group Campgrounds meet accessibility standards; however, the washroom building is not accessible. If required, please let us know at the time of reservation and alternate arrangements will be made.

Reservations

How to make a reservation: Contact: Point Pelee at (519) 322-2365 ext. 0 or Canada’s National Parks and National Historic Sites Vacation Planners toll free at 1-888-773-8888.

  • Phone reservations will be accepted beginning the first business day in February of the year camping is requested;
  • Full payment by MasterCard, VISA, AMEX is required at the time of reservation.
  • Minimum reservation of 8 campers;
  • Groups booking less than 13 campers may be required to share a site with another group;
  • Four (4) night stay maximum;
  • Each group may make no more than one booking during May;
  • During peak camping periods, a waiting list will be established;
  • A list of camper’s must be provided at least two weeks prior to the group’s arrival at the park;
  • Arrival/Departure time is 3:00pm

Minimum required supervision is one adult per 8 youths.

Refund Policy

  • Full refund for cancelations made two weeks prior to reservation, minus the reservation fee.
  • There is no refund for cancelations made less than two weeks prior to the reservations.

Rules & Regulations

  • Most people visit the park for a quiet getaway. Excessive noise is prohibited at all times.
  • To protect the park ecosystem, it is illegal to remove, damage or disturb natural or cultural items from the park. Collecting wood, even if dead and on the ground, from the forest for campfires is also illegal.
  • It is against the law to bring firewood into the park. Firewood is available for purchase at the front gates.
  • All vehicles parked in the group camping parking lot must have a valid parking permit, overflow parking is limited.
  • Campers must leave campsites clean and free of food scraps and garbage.
  • Feeding and/or baiting animals is prohibited.

Facilities

Facilities are shared between Little Raccoon North and Little Raccoon South.

  • Kitchen shelter with a wood-burning stove, electrical outlets and lighting.
  • Cooking grill.
  • Washroom building with running cold water and limited hot water for showers from April to October.
  • Outhouses available from November to March.
  • Drinking water tap is located on the pump house near Henry Community Youth Camp.
  • Wood and recycling/waste receptacles.
  • Fire pit for each tent area.

Please note: Please Note: tents are permitted in the camp area only (see map) and not on the grassy knoll (septic field) between Henry Community Youth Camp and Group Campground.

New in May 2014!

In May 2014, White Pine Picnic Area will be available for group camping. This facility boasts an all-weather pavillion, electricity, onsite washrooms and a large grassy area for tent camping. Please note that there are no onsite showers. Capacity: 20 campers.
